What is Somatic Experiencing®?
Sometimes your mind says: “Everything’s fine,” while your body whispers or even shouts something entirely different. You notice a tightness in your chest, a sudden constriction in your throat, a restless stomach, a twitch in your muscles, or tension that just won’t release.

Somatic Experiencing® (SE) is a naturalistic, neurobiological approach to healing trauma. This gentle, body-focused method understands symptoms as the nervous system’s way of signaling that something remains unresolved. Dr. Peter Levine, founder of SE who has spent over 45 years studying and treating stress and trauma, emphasises that trauma symptoms are not caused by the traumatic event itself. Rather, they arise when residual survival energy from the experience is not discharged from the body. This energy can remain trapped in the nervous system, where it may disrupt both physical and emotional well-being.

Through SE, the survival responses that have become stuck in your body, like fight, flight, or freeze, are gradually released. This isn’t about reliving the past; it’s about subtly tuning into your body in the present moment and allowing it to complete what was never fully processed.
